Edwards vacuum pumps are used mainly in scientific and R&D applications such as mass spectrometers, electron
microscopes and other analytical instruments and also in light industrial applications. Many R&D laboratories use small
rotary vane pumps in freeze drying and wet chemistry applications.
Stokes rotary piston pumps and vacuum blowers are standard pumps for heavy industrial applications such as vacuum
furnaces for heat treating, carburizing, brazing and annealing. Also used extensively in the aluminum coating or
deposition industry.

Howard Tring - qualifications and background:
Howard has spent over 30 years in the vacuum pump industry in several countries.
In England:
Completed a 5 year vacuum engineering apprenticeship with Edwards High Vacuum International Ltd.
During the apprenticeship he completed a one year City and Guilds Workshop Technology Course and gained his
Higher National Certificate (HNC) in mechanical engineering at Crawley College of Further Education.
Spent two years in the Field Service Department at Edwards, servicing and installing vacuum pumps and systems such
as vacuum coaters, freeze dryers and vacuum furnaces.
In Canada:
After a number of years gaining sales and applications experience in other industries, Howard returned to work for
Edwards as a sales engineer.
This position led to a technical support position helping customers in Canada and the USA.
Due to customer requests, technical training was offered using UK based trainers and Howard prepared the practical
equipment for them to use. He then took over the technical training role as he gained experience in this field.
In the United States:
Howard then moved to Massachusetts to take on the role of Technical Training Manager for N. America. He took a one
week course on training skills and presentation skills specializing in training for adults.
New training initiatives were developed for employees and scheduled training courses offered to vacuum industry
customers.
When Stokes Vacuum became an Edwards company the Service training was updated and new technical training
developed for the Stokes products.
In addition to training in N. America he also delivered training courses to semiconductor engineers in Thailand and
Ireland.
When BOC was purchased by Linde in 2007, the Edwards business was divested and became a private company. The
new company Edwards Vacuum Inc disbanded the technical training department.
As a result Howard started Vacuum and Low Pressure Consulting to offer his training skills and experiences in the
vacuum industry to companies that are new to the technology, or whose employees could benefit from a better
understanding of vacuum processes.

Do you have a laboratory size vacuum pump that needs service?
We offer a pick up and delivery service in the Greater Philadelphia area that eliminates the hassle of packing
and shipping for you.
Shipping vacuum pumps by the "parcel" companies often leads to damage in transit.
Shipping small pumps by LTL carriers is very costly.
Service is carried out locally by HyVac Products, Inc. who also manufacture the "HyVac" vacuum pumps. They
know the business.
Call Howard at 610-792-3505 to arrange for your vacuum pump to be serviced.
